The World, European and North American Ranking Series commenced in 2001 and each year attracts competitors from across the globe to compete at these feature events. In 2013 the Australasian Ranking Series have been commenced as well.

The purpose of the IM24CA World Ranking is to encourage Melges 24 owners and sailors to travel and attend key regattas. Each season the IM24CA reviews the program and scoring system to ensure that it continues to meet the Melges 24 Owner and sailor needs.

How does it work?

The scoring system for the Melges 24 European Sailing Series is defined in the Notice of Race for the series. For the Australasian Rankings the same scoring system will apply. Melges 24 NorAm Tour scoring system has been amended by USMCA in 2016 and has different scoring method for 2016, 2017 and 2018. Since 2019 new scoring system was applied for the North American Championship Series.
World Ranking will consist the events of the continents rankings and is a high-point scoring system counting the event overall results and giving the highest score to the winner of the event. From all events on the list (2016 - 14) it will count 3 events with the highest score.

The 2016 Melges 24 World Ranking series featured fourteen events across Europe, North America and Australia including the main title events of the year - Melges 24 World Championship and European Championship incorporating major regional events all around the world – six in Europe, four in North America and four in Australia. Bonus points were awarded for the title events – World and European Championships.

207 teams from 27 countries took part in 2016.
