RODOP Wins 2010 Czech Open Championship

The Czech Nationals took place at a brand new marina of YC Kovarov on Lake Lipno, from August 19th till 22nd. The summer weather allowed racing on Thursday and Saturday only, though delivering 8 nice races with dramatic action throughout. It was Net Development tied with RODOP who led after the first day of racing. Black Mamba and ICZ followed.

Friday brought glassy water and kept competitors ashore concentrating on social activities, which were supported by free Lobkowitz beer kindly donated by the brewery for the whole period of the regatta. Saturday saw the teams waiting for the wind, which filled in shortly after 13:00. Four more races were sailed in stable thermic conditions bringing overall lead to RODOP tied with Black Mamba in second. Net development dropped to third closely followed by ICZ, Finep and HL sailing team. Sunday was windless again, and so RODOP could be crowned 2010 Czech Melges 24 Champion.

Kovarov Bay with the new berthing spots within 100 metres from the starting area has proved to be currently the best Czech racing venue. Czech Melges Association believes that these racing conditions will generate more international interest in the years to come.
