Lenny EST-790 Wins 2012 Estonian Championships

The Estonian Campionships were held at Pirita -  Tallinn, Estonia over the weekend of  September 7.- 9. with the total of 11 teams from Estonia and Finland at the starting line.

A lot of Melges24 regattas have been lacking heavy winds this year, but this was not the case here in Tallinn. All three days were full of good wind from the NW. On Saturday the wind really picked up in the afternoon and it was a wise decision to send the boats back to the harbour in time before the low pressure front really hit Pirita.

The two first days were dominated by Zuxu (helmed by Peter Saraskin) sailing not with their usual crew, but with two new memebers. By Saturday evening Zuxu had a three point lead over Lenny (helmed by Tõnu Tõniste) so Sunday promised to be very interesting. Sunday welcomed us with a really cold 7 – 9 m/s wind and although Zuxu put up a fight for each point, Lenny took the gold, winning the Championship with just one point. Bronze went to Rock City (helmed by Tiit Vihul) who put a nice end to the regatta by winning the last race in front of Lenny and Zuxu.

The Estonian Championships are a part of the Finnish-Estonian Ranking Series consisting of  7 regattas – 3 ranking events held in Helsinki and 4 in Tallinn. The last regatta of the Series: Ranking No.7 will be in two weeks' time, with a big party on Saturday to finish the Melges24 season.
