2018 Melges 24 European Sailing Series - Taki 4 so close to take both trophies - overall and Corinthian
September 18, 2108 – Domaso, Italy - Past weekend some more points were collected to the rankings of the 2018 Melges 24 European Sailing Series. The fifth and penultimate event of the series was sailed on Lake Como in Domaso, considered also as the fifth event of the Italian Melges 24 Tour and Melges 24 Italian Championship. Regatta was hosted by the Yacht Club Como in cooperation with Circolo Vela Canottieri Domaso, Melges 24 Italian Class Association and International Melges 24 Class Association.
Due to the no wind day on Sunday only on Friday and Saturday was sailed in Domaso adding five single races to the series’ ranking, where now total of 39 races with six discards are scored after five events held.

A strong winner of the Domaso regatta was Eddy Eich’s Musto Racing (GER803) being also the best Corinthian team. Another Corinthian entry, Michael Tarabochia’s White Room (GER677) with Luis Tarabochia in helm finished the event as second being tied in points with Mario Ziliani’s General Lee (ITA793), who won the title of Melges 24 Italian Champion 2018, completing the overall podium of the event, while Corinthian podium was completed by Marco Cavallini’s Jeco Team (ITA638).

Reigning Corinthian European Champion Taki 4 (ITA778) of Marco Zammarchi with Niccolo Bertola helming was fifth, but managed to climb to the top of the 2018 Melges 24 European Sailing Series’ overall ranking as the current ranking’ leader Maidollis (ITA854) of Gianluca Perego was not competing.
In Corinthian ranking Taki 4 was strengthening its position as the leader, when the second in the ranking is now German White Room and third Miles Quinton’s Gill Race Team (GBR694) with Geoff Carveth in helm.

The ranking of the Italian Melges 24 Tour (after five regattas) sees now Miles Quinton’s Gill Race Team (GBR694, 468 pts) with Geoff Carveth in helm on top of the ranking. Only one point separates them from Mario Ziliani’s General Lee (ITA793, 467 pts) being second. Swiss Jörg Hotz’ Andele climbed to the third position (SUI821, 423 pts) after the regatta in Domaso. While reigning Melges 24 World Champion Andrea Racchelli on his Altea (ITA722) was not competing in Domaso, he is on the fourth position now with 391 pts followed by the reigning Corinthian European Champion Taki 4 (ITA778, 388 pts) by Marco Zammarchi.

The final event of both series will be held in Luino on October 12-14, where the 15th edition of Lino Favini Cup will take place also valid as Swiss Open Championship.
