Peter Podunavac Wins Slovenian Championship

From 24th to 27th September Yacht Club Portoroz and Marina Portoroz hosted 13 crews from Austria, Croatia, Hungary, Italy, Switzerland and Slovenia on 2nd Slovenian Open National Championship of class Melges 24.  Races were held in front of Piran with NE (Bora) winds. First day was about 20 knots, second day about 16 and last about 10 knots, suited most to the crew of  Peter Podunavac on Paikea. They were in a class of their own and had 7 first places and finished the event 21 points ahead of second placed Austrian Christoph Skolaut on Franz Rocks. Due to disqualification in the 8th race Austrian Franz Urlesberger on Scoenherr has lost 3rd place and Slovenian Hinko Golias on Agapea was happy for the 3rd place. The only girl on the helm Croatian Niki Keser on Izomont DSK was 5th.

All 13 crews were very satisfied with the organization at sea and on shore which was on a very high level so some crews from abroad decided to leave boats in Marina Portoroı and some will come back for training. Organizers are already preparing for 2010 and most probably date for 3rd Slovenian championship will be 14th to 17th October 2010.
