Single Race On Day Three In Scarlino As Blu Moon Consolidates Lead

Only one race was possible on day 3 of the 2011 Melges 24 Italian Open and Volvo Cup in Scarlino, Tuscany. Initially conditions afloat were good and the Club Nautico Scarlino Race Committee were able to run race seven of the series in a pleasant moderate breeze of around 10 knots. An initial attempt to start race eight resulted in a general recall and as the race committee prepared for a second attempt the wind started to become lighter and less stable with the wind on the start line and the wind at the weather mark completely at odds. Eventually it became clear that it was not going to be possible to race again and the crews were sent home for the day.

In race seven victory went to Gian Luca Perego's Maidollis with Gionvanni Pizzatti at the helm who took a confident victory from Claudio Paesani's Rewind Energy Resources. The ever consistent Flavio Favini at the helm of Franco Rossini's Blu Moon took third place to consolidate his overall lead and he now holds a 19 point advantage over second placed Gianni Catalogna's Saetta, helmed by Alberto Bolzan with Giuseppi Comerio's Gullisara, helmed by Carlo Fracassoli, and Antonio Addari's Arteria 24 ever, helmed by Michael Hestbaek, both five points behind in joint third place.

With one more day of racing to go Blu Moon looks fairly confident of overall victory but is still beatable so its all to play for. Don't forget you can keep track of all the latest from the racecourse at the Volvo Cup Facebook page - http://www.facebook.com/pages/Volvo-Cup/120083025396
