Seatta Takes Victory At Volvo Cup Numana

The third leg of the Italian Melges 24 Volvo Cup series took place this past weekend at Numana where 29 teams came together for what proved to be a very testing weekend of Melges 24 racing.

The opening day was very light and Norway’s Storm Capital Sail Racing Team proved to have the best grasp of the difficult conditions as they battled with the 4-5 knot north easterly that opened the day. It was Norway’s Storm Capital Sail Racing Team helmed that made the best of the single race it was possible to run. Second place went to Artery 24Ever and in third place was Saetta.

Day two brought absolutely no wind at all and the competitors spent a frustrating day waiting and watching but sadly no racing was possible.

Fortunately the final day delivered a nice 10 knot north easterly allowing three races to be completed to validate the series. Enrico Zennaro’s Little Wing put in an impressive three wins but sadly and 11th place on the opening day kept them off the top of the podium and they had to be content with second overall. After their opening victory Peder Jahre and the Storm Capital Sail Racing Team lacked consistency adding 9, 10 and 2 to their scoreline which put them into third overall. It was Alberto Bolzan and the Saetta crew who proved that consistency is the name of the game and with a 3, 2, 2, 4 scoreline they took overall victory by 3 points. This victory also helped to reinforce their lead in the overall Volvo Cup series.
