Opening second part of the season in style: Record breaking CRO Melges 24 regatta in Split

September 2, 2022 - Split, Croatia - The Croatian sailing 'League of Champions' opens the second part of the season in style. This weekend, on September 3-4, Split is hosting the best Croatian sailors at the Mornar CRO Melges 24 Cup regatta, where a record 16 Croatian boats and 74 sailors will compete with the partnership of Medico Special Hospital, OneSails, Sailing Point and NaturSafe.

After Dubrovnik, Biograd, Opatija and the premier regatta of the European Sailing Series in Rovinj, the Split water area will host top names in Croatian sailing, including current and former Olympians, winners of numerous medals, winners of prestigious regattas...

"I'm already very satisfied before the start of the continuation of the CRO Melges24 Cup season because this weekend we will have our new record of Croatian crews at one of the regattas. I'm sure that at the very end of this season, the regattas in Split and Zadar will be even more numerous and will be completed by other foreign crews," said on behalf of the organizers from JK Mornar, Laser class European silver and world bronze winner Filip Jurišić, who is and still is the President of the Croatian Melges 24 Class Association.

CRO Melges 24 Cup has in a short time become the most numerous and strongest sailing series on the Croatian part of Adriatic, and with over 20 boats it represents the third largest fleet of Melges 24 in the whole world. The renaissance of Melges was also supported by America's Cup participant Karlo Kuret, who is coming to Split with a new boat CRO 791.

'I'm happy that our fleet is growing from regatta to regatta, and the competition is becoming more numerous and stronger. I will not be modest, I'm interested in fighting for the podium in Split," said Karlo Kuret.

The beauty of Melges 24 also lies in the fact that many amateur crews take part in the regattas, because the boats are fun and competitive. Kolja Dumanić will also make his debut in Split on his CRO 561 Melges called 'Zen'.

'I have already sailed in this series, but Mornar CRO Melges 24 Cup is the official debut of my boat in one of the regattas. The Croatian Melges 24 is a real turning point in our regatta sailing because of the name it brings together, but also the organization that is needed for such regattas. I am also happy with the many young sailors on the boats for whom the regatta in Melges is a great opportunity to gain experience," said Kolja Dumanić.
