Notice to IM24CA World Council Members

IM24CA World Council Extraordinary General Meeting 
Wednesday, October 8, 2025 – 3:00 PM ET

In conjunction with the Technical Committee meeting to discuss proposals to the 2025 AGM

Purpose of the Meeting

The Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) will be convened for the World Council to vote on a proposed Class Rule change allowing the optional use of the RaceSense System (or a similar device).

As the RaceSense System is not currently approved under the Melges 24 Class Rules, this EGM is necessary to authorize its optional use. While the system will not be implemented at the 2025 World Championship, it is anticipated to be introduced at the 2025 Melges 24 North American Championship in Miami (January 2026).

Additionally, the Technical Committee will present proposals to be submitted to the AGM 2025, including:

  • An amendment to the IM24CA Constitution to clarify the definition of an IM24CA-sanctioned event (Worlds, Continental Championships, or, in the case of an OA, when IM24CA is listed as part of the Organizing Authority in the Notice of Race).
  • A white paper on the forestay topic, submitted by Technical Committee Chair Mike Gozzard, to provide members with a better understanding of the technical issues involved.

Timeline of Key Dates

  • August 29, 2025 – Formal notice of the EGM issued to the World Council.
  • September 3, 2025 (Wednesday) - The Agenda with ALL documents for the EGM and Technical Committee meeting will be published and distributed
  • September 10, 2025 (Wednesday) – Deadline for submission of amendments to the EGM motions (no later than 4 weeks prior to the meeting).
  • September 17, 2025 (Wednesday) – Agenda attachments, including any submitted amendments, distributed by the Secretary/Administrator (no later than 3 weeks prior to the meeting).
  • September 24, 2025 (Wednesday) – Secretary/Administrator to publish the voting totals by country. FINAL deadline for dues payments.
  • October 8, 2025 (Wednesday, 3:00 PM ET, 9:00 PM CET) – Extraordinary General Meeting of the IM24CA World Council followed by a Technical Committee Meeting via Zoom.

Participation and Representation

National Class Associations (NCAs) are requested to confirm the names of their representatives, proxies, and any observers to the Class Administrator Piret Salmistu at piret@melges24.com as soon as possible, and no later than the date of the EGM.

If a World Council Member is unable to attend, their NCA may appoint a substitute for that meeting only. Such designations must be submitted in writing and received by the IM24CA Treasurer/Administrator prior to the meeting. Each NCA must inform the IM24CA Treasurer/Administrator of the name of their appointed representative or proxy before the start of the EGM.

NOTE: Invoices for the 2025 IM24CA membership dues will be sent starting September 10. NCAs are asked to settle their dues for their members by September 24 to be counted in the EGM vote.
