Melges 24s put on a show at the International Sailing Week in Trieste

September 22, 2023 – Trieste, Italy - The second long weekend of racing of the Yacht Club Adriaco's International Sailing Week opens with the spotlight on the Melges 24 fleet that has competed in the first three races of the programme valid as a stage of the Melges 24 European Sailing Series 2023.

Today's day with a wind direction of 185 degrees and an intensity of 7 to 20 knots bears the heavy signature of Giovanna Micol's Strambapapà with Michele Paoletti at the helm who, with three bullets, immediately put the turbo boost to their ranking. On the perfect day of the reigning European and Italian champion, who moreover "plays at home", the German team of Michael Tarabochia's White Room (4,3,3 10pts) and the British Gill Race Team of Miles Quinton (2,2,7 11pts) try to keep up with the leader.

The provisional top five is completed by Hungary's Chinook of Akos Csolto in fourth place (3.6.4 13pts) and Barbara Bomben's AleAli Eurocart (5.4.6 15pts).

Giovanna Micol - Strambapapà - "It was an absolutely perfect day for our team, which was at ease on this racecourse and in these very variable wind conditions. We were always able to be very fast and make the right choices in terms of positioning on the racecourse. We are only at the beginning of this three-day event, and we have to keep racing thinking one race at a time. Thanks to the Race Committee for their excellent work today.”
