Melges 24 Pre-Worlds in Trieste Set to Draw Strong Fleet Ahead of 2025 Worlds
21 August, 2025 - Trieste, Italy - With just weeks to go before the 2025 Melges 24 World Championship in Trieste, Italy (September 20-27), the spotlight first turns to the Pre-Worlds regatta – Coppa Tito Nordio – Melges 24 Trofeo Gaudi Act 3, taking place in the same waters from September 5-7, 2025.
This Pre-Worlds event promises to be an exciting rehearsal for the global championship, offering sailors the opportunity to test the conditions of the Gulf of Trieste and measure themselves against international rivals. As of today, 27 teams are entered, with more expected to join in the coming weeks.
Among the international challengers are Croatia’s Razjaren (Ante Cesic), the British Zhik Race Team (Geoff Carveth / Miles Quinton), and Germany’s Nefeli (Peter Karrie). From across the Atlantic, Gamecock (Peter McClennen, USA) and Dark Horse (Cuyler Morris, USA) will add to the overseas flavor. They will face a strong Italian line-up led by Melgina (Paolo Brescia), one of the most consistent performers in recent years, as well as several ambitious local teams. A special spotlight is also on the YCA Racing Youth Team of Yacht Club Adriaco, representing the next generation of Melges 24 sailors in Trieste.
This mix of seasoned champions, Corinthian crews, and youth talent promises thrilling racing and invaluable preparation for the Worlds later in September. Racing in Trieste is always unique – the city’s sailing heritage, the famous Bora winds, and the open Adriatic setting create a challenging and inspiring racecourse. For teams preparing for the Worlds, the Pre-Worlds is the perfect chance to fine-tune boat handling, teamwork, and local knowledge before the championship battle begins.
