Grondin Captures Block Island Race Week Presented by Margaritaville Win

July 2, Block Island, RI, USA - A massive congrats to Laura Grondin aboard her Melges 24 Dark Energy as she and her team of tactician Taylor Canfield, Cole Brauer, Richard Peale and Matthew Ray had a banner week of fun and fantastic sailing at Block Island Race Week presented by Margaritaville 2021.

It was on Wednesday of the event, racing PHRF 2, that Grondin slid just ahead of Kevin McNeil’s Farr 30, SEABISCUIT, to take the win for the day and overall with two days of racing to go.

On Thursday, the penultimate day of racing sailors enjoyed the Regatta Craft Mixers Round the Island Race. With some of the best racing conditions, not just for the week, but in recent Round-the-Island history, the sunny skies, southeasterly winds, and 10-12 knots were ideal.

“We have a fantastic team. We have all sailed together a fair amount and we have just positive teamwork and positive energy on the boat,” said Grondin. “The highlight of the week was definitely the Round the Island Race as we paid attention to all the conditions and got the boat around the course as quickly as possible.”
