Trogir CRO Melges 24 Cup Outdoor Festival: Masters in the City of Masters
May 5, 2023 - Trogir, Croatia - After Dubrovnik, Split, Opatija, Biograd, Zadar, and Rovinj, Trogir is the seventh city in Croatia where the best Croatian sailors will compete in the CRO Melges 24 Cup. The regatta premiere in the City of Masters is included in the program of the 5th edition of the Outdoor Festival, and 17 registered crews (16 from Croatia and 1 from the Czech Republic) will enjoy one of the most beautiful cities on the Adriatic on the weekend of May 6-7.
The regattas of the CRO Melges 24 Cup always attract top sailors, and the Trogir CRO Melges 24 Cup Outdoor Festival is no exception, with a fleet that includes many former Olympians, America's Cup participants, and top sailors from numerous Croatian and international regattas. Among them is the local crew Mataran 24, the current European champion in Melges 24 in the Corinthian division, whose helmsman Ante Botica announces a great sailing performance in Trogir.
"The Melges will be moored in front of Fortress Kamerlengo, so everyone will be able to enjoy the beautiful view of the boats. With this move, we wanted to bring sailing in this beautiful class closer to people. The Croatian Melges 24 fleet is among the largest in the world and that should be shown," said the golden Trogir helmsman, who will have the opportunity to defend his title from Genoa next year at the European Championship for the Melges 24 class in Split.
The second Trogir crew, Makako 24, is composed of experienced sailors from the Sailing club Trogir, including Tudor Bilic, a double world vice-champion and European champion in the Star class with Tonci Stipanovic.
"As a sailor, I wanted to get involved in this story with Melges in Croatia. The regatta in my Trogir cannot be missed. Marko Matic, my former partner in the 49er class, will be at the helm, and we will have the youngest member of the entire regatta in the crew - nine-year-old Jadran from the Optimist class," announced Tudor Bilic.
The CRO Melges 24 Cup is sailed in partnership with Angelina Yacht Charter, Sailing Point, North Sails, One Sails, digital studio Akvarij, digital agency Raiser, regate.com.hr and EmergenSea.
