Melges 24 ESS Kiel 2016

June 25, 2016 – Kiel, Germany – Third day of the 2016 Melges 24 European Sailing Series third event at Kiel Week gave additional three races to the series today. The conditions in Kiel have not been easy for the sailors as yesterday only one race was possible to execute. Two teams have been keeping their positions since the beginning of the event – Andrea Pozzi’s Bombarda ITA841 and Andrea Racchelli’s Altea ITA735, both from Italy.


June 24th, 2016 - Kelowna, BC, Canada -  Day 1 was nothing but wind and back to back races for North America’s Land Rover Kelowna Melges 24 Canadian National Championship! Blowing S/SSW8-14 knots with gust up to 20 gave the Melges 24 teams lots to work with and each race was steady start to finish.

June 24, 2016 - Kiel, Germany - One of the largest sailing events in the world, Kiel Week has been the venue for the Melges 24 European Sailing Series many times in the past. Wonderful entertainment ashore is something what sailors like besides competitive racing on the water. The 2016 Melges 24 European Sailing Series third event was opened with three races on the first day. 22 boats from seven nations are represented in Kiel - Denmark, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Switzerland, Slovakia and Ukraine.

June 22nd, 2016 - Kelowna, BC, Canada - The Land Rover Kelowna Melges 24 Canadian National Championship will be held in Kelowna, BC on June 24 - 26. The event is also Stage 1 of the North American Tour. Registration opens 9 am on June 22nd and boats will start arriving from all corners of North America to compete.

June 21, 2016 - Helsinki, Finland - Finnish Open Nationals were held over the June 17-19 weekend. Superb heavy weather sailing conditions at Ytterskär - SW 8-11 m/s, big waves, "some rain showers". And most of all Lenny EST790 helmed by Tõnu Tõniste continued the dominance taking the gun in all of final day's three races. So winning seven races out of eight races. Phenomenal upwind and downwind speed with superb boat handling was too much to the others.

June 21, 2016 - Kammersee, Austria - It's been a week since the winners of the second event of the 2016 Melges 24 European Sailing Series were announced in Segelclub Kammersee, Austria. Sometimes mistakes can happen and so happened with the results of the Corinthian fleet.

June 20, 2016 - Borstahusen, Sweden - Melges 24 Sweden invites Melges 24 sailors from all over Europe to take part from the Melges 24 Open Swedish Championship to be hosted by Borstahusens Segelsällska (40 km to North from Malmö), on August 5-7. A great fleet of 26 teams entered already from Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark and Germany. Early Bird Entry Deadline is June 25! This could be a wonderful option to train and compete in a bigger fleet for the Europeans in Hyeres in the beginning of September!

June 11, 2016 – Attersee, Austria – The final day of the 2016 Melges 24 European Sailing Series’ second event and Melges 24 Austrian Open Championship hosted by the Segelclub Kammersee was rewarding. Having one single race only executed during two racing days by today there were four races added to the final result taking into account also one discard. The conditions on the beautiful Attersee were all but easy and the best to read its behaviour was the Italian team helmed by Niccolò Bertola and Giacomo Fossati calling the tactics.

June 11, 2016 – Attersee, Austria – According to the yesterday’s decision Melges 24 fleet was on the Lake Attersee at 8 am for the early start of the second day at the second event of the 2016 Melges 24 European Sailing Series hosted by the Segelclub Kammersee.

Despite of the hard will the wind was not cooperating either with the organisers nor the sailors, AP flag was hoisted and PRO Stephan Buehle was sending the fleet back ashore to wait for the wind to come.

June 10, 2016 – Attersee, Austria – The first day on Lake Attersee was sunny and beautiful but somewhat teasing the sailors eager to race at the second event of the 2016 Melges 24 European Sailing Series hosted by the Segelclub Kammersee. Despite of lacking the wind since the midday one race was manageable to execute late in the afternoon. Local sailor Christoph Skolaut with his team on Franz Rocks was rocking the boat being the first one getting over the finishing line in very tricky conditions.
