Still Time To Register And Join More Than 30 Teams For The US Nationals In Spectacular Puget Sound, Seattle

With three weeks left to go the 2012 Melges24 US Nationals has registered more than 30 boats. “They are coming from all over”, says Seattle Fleet Captain Keith Hammer.  Joining the strong West Coast boat turn out, there are boats from the Mid-West and East Coast; even boats from the Caribbean and Australia have signed up.

We have several new boat owners jumping in from North America’s largest District, the Pacific Northwest (Canada and the US) along with some old-timers from across North America.  This will be an opportunity for the established sailors to share with the new sailors on the block, great gains and good times for everybody.

The spectacular sailing venue is part of the draw, with the snow-capped Olympic Mountains and Mt. Rainier as the backdrop to Shilshole in the Puget Sound.  We will be seeing a lot of sea life alongside the race-course, with the Orcas feeding on seals feeding on salmon. Speaking of salmon, the local Seattle fleet never disappoints with the shore side activities. There will be barbecues with live music and plenty of refreshments to satisfy the sailors, lots of opportunities to get to know each other.

Class stalwarts, Argyle Campbell and Bruce Ayres, both former National Champions will be sailing their boats off Shilshole.

Bruce Ayers offers some of what drew him to Seattle- “As with other great arena's, San Francisco, Torquay, Sardinia, Key West, Lake Geneva, Miami....You look around, You take it all in, you say, how lucky we are!!!!!!, and then you race”

Argyle Campbell adds- “I have only sailed in Seattle at the Intercollegiate Championships many years ago.  The scenery is incredible and the sailing was quite challenging so I am definitely looking forward to the regatta.”

With three weeks left to go until the US Nationals begins, there is still time to register and join the party. In addition the event organizers are helping teams secure storage and free housing, they are available to solve any other season-opener issues that arise.
