Simoneschi Retains Lead And Balestrero Moves Into Second After Tough Day Two In Torbole

Four races hair raisingly close races, races four to seven of the series, were delivered to the Melges 24 fleet in Torbole today where the Lake Garda leg of the Melges 24 European Sailing Series reached its midway point.  Overnight leader Riccardo Simoneschi had a slight wobble in the morning race finishing fourth, his worst result of the regatta, but consolidated with three seconds to end the day still leadin by a three point margin.

Fellow Italian Matteo Balestrero started and finished his day in fine style with a pair of wins and sandwiched two fourths between them which jumps him up the leader board from fifth last night to second overall tonight.  Chris Rast had a somewhat mixed day as can be clearly seen from his 3, 5, 1, 10 secoreline and as a result he drops down into third place, five points behind Balestrero.

The day's other race winner was Japan's Nagahashi Makoto, who claimed victory in race five plus a second and third, but his luck ran out in race seven where ended up finishing 12th, his worst result of the series, so he drops down from third to fourth.

One more day of racing remains tomorrow and whilst Simoneschi remains in control of the regatta his clearly far from unbeatable and Malestrero will no doubt have him in his sights.
