Open Slovenian National Championship Won By Austrians

Portoroz, Slovenia – 28th October 2012 - Between Friday and Sunday the Slovenian coast was hosting this year’s Open Slovenian National Championship of Melges24. The race was attended by 13 crews from 5 countries, but no doubt the Austrian competitors left a significant mark on this year’s top positions. The gold was taken by the team “Die Weisse”, headed by Franz Urlesberger, the second place was achieved by Helmut Gottwald from the boat Vredestein. At least the third place was left for a Slovenian team – the bronze went to the team of SC Aurora, headed by Hinko Golias. Day 1 of the race was influenced by heavy showers, but despite the bad weather the organizing committee successfully concluded the first sailing day. Saturday’s first race was joined with the Ending Regatta and Melges sailors couldn’t get through the ending line unnoticed: they achieved the second and the third place in the absolute competing category. The last racing day was supposed to be Sunday, but the heavy Bora of that day did not allowed a safe execution of sailing races. The conferring of prizes was held in the Marina of Portoroz, the Championship was organized by the Sailing club Pocodebon and the Slovenian Melges24 Association.
