Open Slovenian Melges 24 National Championship Won By Italians

On Sunday, 23rd October 2011, the Slovenian coast was hosting this year's Open National Championship Melges24. 14 crews attended the race from 6 countries; best of all were the Italians Arteria 24ever. Owner ADDARI Antonio, skipper ZILIANI Mario and crew SOLDANO Pablo, VELICOGNA Matteo, GRITTI Matteo. Owner and skipper PODUNAVAC Peter from YC Portoroz and his crew CESIC Ante, POPOVIC Zeljko, JERANKO Vid, KOSIR Luka came second, despite facing serious problems on race day 1. Bora, blowing from 25-30 knots scraped the halyard of their spinnaker and the lost regatta of that day undoubtedly influencing the final results. The Estonian team, headed by TAUTS Henri, conquered third place. Their boat Freddy is owned by HAAVEL Ants, other crewmembers were POMERANTS Marko, VESI Oliver, KOLK Juhan. The prize giving ceremony was held in the Marine Portoroz. Its creator – MISSON Toni, gave the cups in the form of marble sailboats to the victorious sailors.

The Championship was organized by the Sailing club Pocodebon and the SIMCA - Slovenian Melges24 Association; main supporters were Marina Portoroz, Ltd. and Skipper Portoroz, Ltd.
