HARRY MELGES & JEFF ECKLUND LEAD ON DAY ONE OF NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP

Harry Melges, helming for Jeff Ecklund, dominated day one of the Melges 24 North American Championships in Annapolis today with a 2, 1, 2 scoreline. Mike Dow was his nearest rival scoring 1, 5, 3, whilst Daniel Cammeron had an excellent day culminating in a win in the third race to take third overall. Olympic medallist Mark Reynolds, helming from Jeff Jones, had to be content with fourth overall having scored 4, 2, 9.

Liz Filter, who hopes to be representing the US in the Yngling at the Athens Olympics, saw all her hard work in helping to co-ordinate the regatta begin to pay off today. Not only did 28 of US and Canada's top Melges 24 competitors come to the line to do battle for the North American crown but Liz herself had a very satisfactory opening day scoring 5, 10, 5 to take sixth overall just behind Wayne Pignolet.

Racing continues until Saturday so watch this space for all the news and latest developments.
