Gulari Crowned Melges 24 Key West Champion

After ten amazing races, Bora Gulari, with the aid of tactician Jeremy Wilmot aboard West Marine Rigging/New England Ropes, won the top trophy in the Melges 24 Key West division. In second overall, Alan Field on WTF held strong to take second and Flavio Favini, at the helm of Franco Rossini’s Blu Moonfinished third. Bruce Ayres’ Monsoon and Don Wilson’sConvexity finished respectively to round out the top five.

Two additional races were completed on Friday, with Field taking the final two bullets of the event. With an absolutely perfect 13-15 knots of breeze, the fleet planed downwind in the light chop and reveled in the warm sunshine. Despite his best efforts, 2011 Key West defending champion and Boat of the Week winner, Favini eventually surrendered his quest to win.

The U.S. Melges 24 Class Association would specifically like to thank every competitor that traveled the distance to participate. The USMCA also extends a very special thanks to the Race Committee for world-class race management, most especially for the extremely professional hand of Peter ‘Luigi’ Reggio as PRO, and to Premiere Racing for a very well-organized event.
