Tampa, FL - After a fun afternoon and evening of revelry on Saturday, the Melges 24 fleet wearily made it to the docks around 8 a.m. for an early 9:30 Sunday morning start. The goal was to take advantage of the remaining moon wind and sneak in 2-3 more races on the final day, settling the score in both the overall and corinthian fleets.

Legendary sailor/coach Gordy Bowers from Lake Minnetonka, Minnesota proclaims that when a high pressure system is parked over a region and the land cools in the evening, there is a drainage breeze that fills. This breeze remains throughout the morning until the sun heats the land and squashes what is left of…the Moon Wind. Yes, Moon Wind. That is what the Melges 24 fleet had as they left the dock for the second day of racing at the 2014 Melges 24 U.S. Nationals hosted by the Davis Island Yacht Club (DIYC).

Tampa, FL - The saying goes, “it’s a marathon, not a sprint,” and on the first day of the 2014 U.S. Melges 24 National Championship hosted by Davis Island Yacht Club (DIYC), PRO Eric Robbins made good on his promise. It was a long day with the completion of five races, leaving the fleet with weary grins, and a well earned session at the new DIYC tiki bar. Despite light and tricky breeze in the morning, then shifty and puffy breeze in the afternoon, the racing was stellar and the perfect reminder of why Melges 24 racing is still the best.
