Maidollis And Freddy Victorious At Volvo Cup Scarlino

Last weekend's Volvo Cup event in Scarlino brought 34 boats from 8 nations to the line for a challenging weekend of racing.  The winds ranged from 6 to 14 knots and were very shifty thanks to a weather system which was crossing the region through the regatta.  The Club Nautico Scarlino's race committee worked very hard to ensure the competitors got the best possible racing and made several difficult but well thought out decisions including postponing racing on the second day until late afternoon when a 12 knot breeze filled in to give two great races.  In total the teams enjoyed nice races in conditions that gave the tacticians lots to think about and required plenty of gear changing from the trimmers as well as 100% concentration from the helms.

Overall ITA 822 Maidollis was the top performer with owner Gian Luca Perego, helmsman Giovanni Pizzatti and tactician Francesco Bianchi putting in an excellent performance.  The boat was really fast in all conditions and they chose well in many difficult situations.  Second place went to SUI 825 Blu Moon, owned by Franco Rossini with helmsman Flavio Favini and tactician Matteo Ivaldi.  They sailed well but a couple of bad starts meant they had problems to get out from the pack and gave themselves a lot of work to do.  In third place it was Maurizio Loberto's Little Wing ITA 798, with helmsman Enrico Zennaro andtactician Branko Brnic whilst the Coritnhian trophy went to EST 790 Freddy, owned and helmed by Olympic Silver Medallist Tonu Toniste.

Ashore the teams enjoyed the wonderful relaxed cameraderie that is sysnonymous with the Club Nautico Scarlino.
