JIB BATTEN TRIAL - CLARIFICATION OF INTERNATIONAL REGATTAS

There continues to be continued confusion as to exactly which regattas the trial jib battens can be used at. The definitive answer is that sailors can not use battened jibs at International events (ie those directly organised under the auspices of the International Class). In practise this means that the trial jibs cannot be used at World or Continental (European, North American, etc) Championships in 2001.

Battened jibs can be used at all National events (ie those run by National Classes or by independent event organisers). In practise this means that the trial jibs can be used at all National Championships and at events such as Yachting Key West Race Week, Hanko Race Week, Skandia Life Cowes Week and La Rochelle Week.

The wording for the formal rule has to be based on ISAF terminology and it is they who lay down what is an "International" event and what is a "National" event so sorry for the confusion but I hope the above finally clarifies the situation for everyone.
