2002 INTERNATIONAL MELGES 24 NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

2002 International Melges24 North American Championships, Annapolis, Maryland

The 2002 International Melges24 North American Championships will be held in Annapolis, Maryland from April 1-6, 2002. The members of Melges24 Fleet #22 and Eastport Yacht Club are proud to host this prestigious event and look forward to welcoming the top one-design keelboat sailors. A Chesapeake Bay springtime offers excellent conditions both on and off the water, and exceptionally close and exciting racing is guaranteed. Typical temperatures in this area reach an average high of 65 degrees and an average low of 45 degrees. Local sailing conditions will ensure plenty of action and great photographs.

Racing begins on Wednesday April 3, and Principal Race Officer Jeff Borland plans ten races for the participants. Full days of sailing and full evenings of socializing are scheduled. PRO Borland has made it his mandate for everyone to have a terrific and memorable time while sailing the North American Championships: he happens to be the new Commodore of Eastport Yacht Club as well! Being an avid sailor himself, he knows what it takes to put on a first-class event.

In addition to the action at the yacht club, the city of Annapolis has so much to offer. Downtown Annapolis is just a close walk over the Spa Creek Bridge or water taxi trip across the tranquil harbor. The beautiful shops, historical buildings and sites, the cobblestone main street, and many restaurants and pubs, offer something for young and old. With its small town charm, great historical presence and overall sailing atmosphere, Annapolis will produce the greatest memories for this special regatta.
